Maggie Gleason can now hear but the really remarkable thing is that she’s hearing with her brain, not her ears after 14 years.!

Maggie has overcome several medical adversities in her life. According to her mother she flat-lined twice when she was born; was born without cochleae, had weak kidneys, a weak heart, and collapsed lungs; has had two cleft palate surgical repairs, and was on a gastric feeding tube for nine years.

Maggie’s family had lost hope in her hearing but thanks to a technology advancement, an auditory brain stem implant that would bypass the ear altogether was the only solution to her condition. After waiting for 11 years Maggie became the first teen to have the surgery.!
