A man bites a police dog; a frustrated citizen is arrested for ‘leaf rage’; and a groom-to-be allegedly stages a burglary to hock his fiancee’s engagement ring. Feel the love in this week’s edition of “The Crime Blotter.” Kansas City police said a man bit a police officer and his dog after he tried to cheat a cab driver out of his fare.

Mark McClarty refused to pay cab fare in the early morning hours of Nov. 12, authorities said. The driver summoned a police officer and when the officer found McClarty nearby, McClarty allegedly punched him.

The police dog, who had been in the patrol car, joined the fight after the officer used a remote control to open the doors. Police said the dog bit McClarty, but the suspect also bit back, nearly gnawing off the canine’s ear.
