It’s been 100 years since Ota Benga fired a bullet into his own chest and ended his tragic life. He was kidnapped from Congo and put on display in the Bronx Zoo with an orangutan to demonstrate the “missing link” of evolution. The human being was branded a “Bushman”. People laughed at him, teased him and children would mock him. This sparked protests around the country and Ota Benga was set free after 20 days on display. But 6 years later he shot himself in the heart.
