A seventeen year old boy from India, Ashik Garai, complained of sharp pain in his lower jaw for 18 months. He was taken to a number of doctors in his village, but none of them could identify the problem. Later on when Ashik’s face started to swell his father took him to a hospital in Mumbai.
There, doctors found he was suffering from a condition known as complex odontoma (Odontomas are haphazardly arranged tooth-like growths. They are composed of enamel, dentin (the yellowish tissue that makes up the bulk of all teeth) and pulp tissue (part in the center of a tooth made up of living connective tissue).
