Ginger has proven itself to be amazing in the fight against cancer, in recent studies it has shown to be even more effective at killing cancer cells than some medications.Ginger was found to reduce the size of a prostate tumor by 65% in one study at the Georgia State University. In addition to this, it is known to reduce inflammation and supply the body with antioxidants.

Another study published in PLoS showed that an ingredient found in ginger, 6-shogaol is better at beating cancer than certain mainstream cancer treatments such as chemotherapy when targeting breast cancer cells.

6-shogaol is so important as it has been found to be effective against cancer stem cells, which are known as ‘mother cells’. Although this part of the cancer only make up around 1 or 2 % of the tumor, they are notoriously hard to kill.

In addition to killing the cancer stem cells, this special component leaves the healthy cells alone, something which chemotherapy doesn’t do, making treatment easier on the patient.

Even the new cancer drug taxol was not found to be as effective against tumors as 6-shogaol, proving itself to be around 10,000 more powerful.

It has been noted that turmeric has amazing effect on certain cancer cells, and ginger, being it’s cousin, can also be just as useful.

More research needs to be carried out in the field, but these initial test are a step in the right direction to having a natural cancer cure which has none of the harmful side-effects that current cancer medications do.
