Mom had prepared for the perfect home birth but did not expect this unbelievable surprise. Amber and Kyle, parents of two, did not want to find out the gender of their baby during pregnancy. They wanted it to be surprise and so they kept the baby’s secret until the actual delivery.
When the delivery date finally came and Amber’s contractions began, Amber’s mother, sister-in-law, two sons, birth photographer, and midwife gathered around her. The midwife set up the birthing pool and within a short time everything was perfect and it was just a matter of time for the baby to arrive.
As Amber’s water broke, she felt a “water balloon sac” in the tub. It turns out that the baby was born en caul, meaning it was born in the amniotic sac. With a percentage of less than 1 in 80,000 births, this is was a pretty rare occurrence.
