A rare condition ended a mother’s life, but her brave decision to save her unborn child will live on forever. Shortly after Karisa Bugal, 34, gave birth to Declan Jay Bulger on Nov. 3, she passed away due to a rare complication known as an amniotic fluid embolism. So sad.

Karisa Bugal was a mother of two and a loving wife, but she made the ultimate sacrifice to give her newborn son the gift of life. After hearing her story, you’ll never forget Karisa Bugal’s bravery and heroism.As Karisa was going into labor on Nov. 3, she unexpectedly suffered from a rare condition called amniotic fluid embolism, which according to medical experts affects 1 to 12 mothers in every 100,000 deliveries.

With her unborn son’s health rapidly declining, Karisa immediately opted for a c-section procedure — a decision that would inevitably increase her risk of death.
