With the nation divided into half-mournful, half-rejoicing over the outcome of last night’s elections resulting in a president-elect Donald Trump and a House and Senate full of Republicans, people are responding in dramatic fashion.
And no one has been more dramatic or more heartbroken than the woman who once declared it was a “Party in the USA”, Miley Cyrus.
She was the darling of pop for a few minutes before her wild side broke though. But more recently, Miley Cyrus has been outspoken for her love for Hillary Clinton and before that, Bernie Sanders.
Cyrus took to Twitter to post a video where she was visibly tearful for the loss of her presidential hopeful: Hillary Clinton and for the exiting president, Barack Obama.
“I heavily supported Hillary and I still think, that in her lifetime, she deserves to be the first female president,” says Cyrus through sniffles and sobs. “And that’s what makes me so sad. I just wish she had had that opportunity because she’s just fought for so long.”
Though Cyrus, a liberal, self-proclaimed “happy hippie” despite being raised in a conservative Christian home, was visibly mournful of Clinton’s loss, she took the time in the video to embrace Trump as the president-elect.
“Hopefully we adjust and we accept everyone for who they are and so Donald Trump, I accept you,” she says. “And this is hard to say, but I even accept you as president of the United States.”
Please, please just treat people with love and treat people with compassion and with respect, and I will do the same for you,” Cyrus says.
For as avant-garde as Miley has been, bearing it all on stage and off, I’m pleasantly surprised at her calm and mature response to the new president — despite him not being the man she ever thought we’d elect. That’s more than what I can say for more than half of my “friends” on Facebook today who are nasty in their hateful mourning that their beloved Hillary didn’t get her day in the White House.
Do you think Miley had the right response? We need to pray for unity amongst all of our nation!
