Even MacGyver was never this clever. Did you know you could start a fire with a lemon? You can! And we’re here to teach you how.

All you’ll need is the following:

  • 1 lemon
  • copper braiding
  • 6 zinc nails
  • steel wool
  • paper or other fire-starter (petroleum jelly soaked cotton ball, etc)

Simply plug the copper braids and zinc nails into the lemon, then wrap your wires diagonally, as shown above.

From the unwired corners, run a postive and negative wire from each (your anode and cathode, respectively) to the steel wool, allowing the current to run through it.

The steel wool will catch fire, at which point you can add your other fire-starter materials, and before long you’ll have a big roaring blaze – all from a lemon.

Pretty cool, right?
